The cloth of the Kaaba.
One cloth, renewed each year
The Kaaba in Makkah is covered by the Kiswah — a cloth of black silk, woven with calligraphy and embroidered with gold and silver thread. It is produced anew every year, and the preceding cloth is taken down and divided.
Its meaning
For Muslims around the world the Kaaba is the direction of prayer, and millions stand before it during Hajj and Umrah. A section of its cloth is a witness to this place — and is treated with the respect it deserves.
Preserved as art
Kaaba Treasures mounts original sections of the Kiswah in engraved, gilded copper frames — handcrafted in Egypt. Every piece is documented with a certificate stating the year of its cloth.
